WHO AM I?

Tomislav Marcijuš, Internationally awarded photographer based in Croatia. Contemporary and the documentary photographer was born in Osijek in 1990. After graduation at the Construction School, he began to experiment with the film and analog cameras. After five years, his hobby turns into the business and launches his brand called Marcijuš Weddings. As a creative person he is photographing digital and on the film. Analog photography made it possible to discover his own style and applies it to the wedding and other types of photography.

My love for art led me to an artistic and creative way to document your special day. I wish to show weddings around the world in my own way and how I see it through digital and analog photography. I have had the opportunity to photograph in England, Spain, Germany, Austria, Hungary, Austria and in neighboring countries. I'm a photographer who loves spontaneity, creative focus, black and white photography, and emotions. I also love music, festivals, and concerts, literature! I love traveling and exploring not popular parts of the cities. This is something that makes me happier and richer. If I have a few days off, I always use them for travel. Also, I like to dedicate myself to Lara and our time.

STYLE

I live in Eastern Europe which brings everyday nostalgia and melancholy. My photographs, in an elegant and dreamy style, couldn’t have avoided it. The compound of all this makes my photographs timeless that are saying – “everything will be fine”. My style has been built up throughout these two years by various artists in the world of cinematography, painting, photography, music, and Croatian modern art. I'm trying to make it even more delicate with shooting at dawn or dusk and with the cadre and shadows game. I'm huge admirers of motion photos and black-and-white that emphasize elegance throughout the whole story.

PHILOSOPHY

Wedding photography brought me a lot of life experience. It teaches me every day how to struggle with unpredictable situations and how to be happy with what you have. This is something really beautiful and special for me. It convinced me that only hard work accomplishes dreams and that boundaries exist only in our minds. I have learned that I need to be the wind in each other’s sails, with that we become stronger. Focus only on your own path and there will be no obstacles and negative things. When you look at the world in that way, everything you make is a piece of art that will find its way to the observer and stay forever in his mind as something the most beautiful. That is the wealth that no one can ever take away from you.

TEAM

I'm a one-man-band. Sometimes, when it's possible, my fiancé Lara is a second shooter. From the beginning of our brand, she shot every wedding but in the last year, she got a job in her profession as an embryologist. When she is not available, the second shooter is my dear colleague Marko Dukic who is a great portrait and editorial photographer. If you're interested in video and beautiful cinematic moments, my recommendation is Domagoj Oklopčić from Efekt Media.

INSPIRATION

The ambiance in which I live became my main inspiration and challenge. My style has been built up also by the various artists in the world of movies, painting, music, and books. The greatest inspiration comes from the work of Andrei Tarkovsky and his art movies such as The Mirror and Nostalgia. In these movies, I see my life and emotions that I also convey in my photographs. My way of thinking and creating was influenced by Croatian modern art and by various artists and art groups from the Balkans. In the last few years, following their works and books, I have learned that the process is more important than the result.

The process is the only important thing when you are an artist. It is always interesting to follow the transformation of your own work. When you have a result, it’s the end. Like everyone else, I have some of my favorite photographers but they are not from the wedding industry. Ernst Haas, Inge Morath, Dora Maar, Martin Munkácsi, Man Ray and Saul Leiter. From this era, I follow in the last few month’s works of Jack Davison. I must not forget the important photographers and videographers from Croatia who has built a strong foundation that makes the Croatian photography scene one of the best in the world. They are Tose Dabac, Marija Braut, Miljenko Horvat, Vlado Martek, and Ivan Ladislav Galeta.
